15 Years of Encounter, Formation & Mission

A journey of accompanying young Latino adults through faith, community, and leadership.

2010 — Founding
Iskali was founded in Melrose Park, Illinois, in response to a growing need among young Latino adults who were searching for faith, community, and purpose. What began as a small effort to accompany a few young people quickly became a space where they could encounter Christ and one another.

2012 — Expansion to
Parishes
Iskali began expanding into new parishes, forming weekly small communities rooted in authentic friendship, prayer, and the joy of the Gospel. These communities became the foundation of our mission.

2014 — Retreat
Movement Begins
We launched our retreat program, creating spaces where young adults could step away, encounter Christ in a personal way, and return renewed. Retreats quickly became a central moment of transformation and leadership development.

2016 — Leadership
Formation & Mentorship
Iskali formalized its leadership formation model, introducing mentorship and intentional development in the human, spiritual, intellectual, and pastoral dimensions.

2017 — Bishop John
Manz Center Opens
The Bishop John Manz Center became our home, allowing us to deepen formation, expand programming, and strengthen our presence in the Church.

Partnerships &
Recognition
We established partnerships with Catholic universities and national organizations. That same year, Iskali received the Bishop's Quarterly Award from the Archdiocese of Chicago, recognizing our work in parishes.

Growth
Our founder was recognized among Chicago's 40 Under 40 Latino leaders, highlighting the impact of Iskali's mission in the community.
Scholarship icon
2021 — Scholarship
Program Launch &
National Partnership
Iskali launched its scholarship program to support first-generation Latino students pursuing higher education. We also began a key partnership with the McGrath Institute for Church Life at the University of Notre Dame.
Casa Iskali icon
2022 — Casa Iskali
Acquired
We acquired Casa Iskali, now the first Latino-owned and operated Catholic retreat center in the United States. This marked a major step toward creating a permanent home for formation and encounter.

2024 — Expansion of
Service & Family
Accompaniment
Iskali deepened its commitment to serving families and those in need, expanding service initiatives and launching efforts to accompany young parents.

Program Launch
We launched the Iskali Missionary Program, sending full-time missionaries into parishes to build communities, lead formation, and accompany young adults more deeply.
